Estimation of Vertical Deflections in Concrete Beams through Digital Close Range Photogrammetry

چکیده
Deformation monitoring, and in general structural health monitoring, of civil infrastructure systems is important in terms of both safety and serviceability. Traditionally, large structures have been monitored using surveying techniques, while fine-scale monitoring of structural components has been done with geotechnical instrumentation. This paper reviews the advantages and disadvantages of using remote sensing methods, such as terrestrial laser scanning and digital close range photogrammetry, for the purposes of precise 3D reconstruction and the estimation of deflections in structural materials. It is also shown how a low-cost setup of multiple digital cameras and projectors can be used for the monitoring of concrete beams subjected to different loading conditions by a hydraulic actuator. The photogrammetric system used does not require any physical targets other than for the purposes of establishing the relative orientation between the involved cameras. The setup was tested in two experiments, and the beam deflections resulted from the photogrammetric system were compared to the ones from a set of one-dimensional laser transducers and a terrestrial laser scanner. The experiments proved that it was possible to detect sub-millimetre level deformations given the used equipment and the geometry of the setup. * Corresponding author.

Measurement of Deflections in Concrete Beams by Close-range Digital Photogrammetry
This paper describes the use of digital photogrammetry for measurement of deflections in concrete beams during destructive testing. A two-video camera system was used to measure vertical deflections with a precision of ±0.25mm (1σ). The system, network design and processing methods are described in detail. Results are presented from several tests of different types of beams. Some of the advanta...
متن کاملCase Study of Beam Deformation Monitoring Using Conventional Close Range Photogrammetry
Deformation monitoring is an important procedure of measuring the structural health of completed civil engineering structures. Most traditional methods for measuring deflection occurring in structures require periodic access for designated inspectors to the particular area being monitored. As a remote sensing technique, photogrammetry does not need any contact with the objects of interest, and ...

In order to analyze the slope stability in open-pit mines, the structural parameters of rock mass such as persistence and spatial orientation of discontinuities are characterized through field surveys, which involve spending high costs and times as well as posing high risks of rock toppling and rock fall. In the present work, a new application of terrestrial digital photogrammetry is introduced...
